About Us

Isaac Dickson is one of six elementary schools in the Asheville City Schools district.  Our magnet theme is Experiential Education.  Our belief in hands-on learning comes from research that shows students learn best by doing.

In addition to comprehensive language arts, math, science, and social studies instruction, students attend specialist classes in Spanish, music, physical education, and art.  The school also provides after-school clubs on topics such as karate, cooking, chess, science, swimming, mosaics, coding, and many more.

Through project based learning, students tackle a challenging academic curiculum in ways that are fun, engaging, meaningful, and adaptable to a variety of learning styles.  Our instruction is based on the Common Core State and NC Essential Standards.  Our students' standardized test scores are consistently among the highest in the region.  You can find our NC School Report Cart on the School Info menu above.
